Map-it CCU final event: the results and future of CCUS in Flanders (fully booked, updated agenda)
Map-it CCU final event: the results and future of CCUS in Flanders (fully booked, updated agenda)

The transition to a sustainable economy offers numerous opportunities, but also presents complex challenges. Carbon Capture, Utilisation, and Storage (CCUS) plays a crucial role in this transition. The importance of CCUS is clear, but what an effective value chain might look like is not yet clear to many of the parties involved. Based on this question, various knowledge parties have joined forces with industrial partners to develop a decision support tool and a knowledge package. The results of this project will be summarised at the upcoming event.
In the short term, CCUS can help reduce emissions from existing industrial installations. In the long term, it will be indispensable for deep decarbonisation in sectors where direct electrification or the use of renewable raw materials is difficult, and possibly even for removing CO₂ from the atmosphere.
What to expect at the event
This event brings together industrial parties of various sizes and with different interests and experience in a potential CCU value chain, along with technology experts. The presence of policymakers at this event offers a unique opportunity to strengthen the dialogue between technology and regulation. By sitting down with experts and companies, we can better align regulatory frameworks with technological reality. This exchange is essential to remove barriers, stimulate innovation and accelerate the roll-out of CCUS solutions across all sectors.
We cordially invite you to the closing event of the Map-it CCU project on 27 May 2025 in the atmospheric Chapter Hall of St. Peter's Abbey in Ghent. The event will take place from 10:00 to 16:00.

About the Map-it CCU Project
Map-it CCU is a VLAIO intercluster COOCK project, supported by spearhead clusters Catalisti, FLUX50 and FlandersFood and developed within the CAPTURE community. The project offers Flemish companies and other stakeholders a structured overview of technologies and value chains to support their sustainability goals and CO₂ neutrality ambitions. Coordinated by VITO and in collaboration with CAPTURE members from Ghent University, Antwerp University, VITO and VUB, the project focuses on highlighting potential Carbon Capture & Utilisation (CCU) value chains as a crucial strategy for reducing the CO₂ footprint of industrial activities, in addition to other sustainability initiatives such as electrification and renewable raw materials.
Smart Delta Resources Flanders
Thanks to our active involvement, the industrial network of Smart Delta Resources Flanders played a key role in both the development and implementation of the project. Our contribution not only increased the reach, but also strengthened the impact at both regional and sectoral level.
We hope to welcome you at our closing event. We look forward to making it a success together with you!
Kind regards,
Het Map-it CCU Team
